To prove a point

To prove a point, I’m going back to my example at the Oakland teach-in of me personally serving as the only person to fill out ballots and to count ballots, just like touch screen DREs.

Conclusions:  So long as I (a human being or a touch screen machine) fill out the ballot for you, I win.   All of your mandatory recount and paper ballot efforts only serve to shave down the maximum amount by which I can cheat, but don’t even come close to eliminating it.   It’s not in who has the right to vote, or even who COUNTS the votes (if the counting is honest), but in WHO FILLS OUT THE BALLOTS.

Explanation:  Even if a paper record trail is created and the voter prompted to inspect it, this is functionally no different than the “summary” screen the touch screen voter is asked to review before casting an electronic ballot.   Numerous witnesses caught problems with this summary screen, but almost all of them expressed a concern that others would not catch it since they barely caught it themselves. And indeed my Snohomish County data proves that many voters did not catch the “mistakes” or else that the votes were changed at some point.

OK so going back to the example of PAUL LEHTO AS SOLE VOTE REGISTRAR AND SOLE VOTE COUNTER (just like touch screens): Even *WITH* a paper record ballot

*and* a check of few percent of precincts, I can still easily throw elections.

How do I still throw elections??

Here’s just one simple example.

Recall that I am still filling out your ballot for you.   I fill it out 90% correctly.   Some of you catch the error and I say “oops, sorry for the glitch” and you get a new one, but others of you don’t catch it because not everybody has time or is a perfect proofreader, etc.

But now, thanks to the paper record/ballot, I have a superficially VERY STRONG ARGUMENT that this is a clean voting process, when in fact I can still easily shave a few percent for my favorite candidates, and just say “glitch” or “knuckle-dragging dumb voters who can’t work a touch screen properly” in those few instances when my “mistakes” are caught.  Therefore, you will never succeed in arguing that I’ve gamed the system because EVERY SINGLE VOTER HAS *APPROVED* this process.

So long as I fill out the ballot, I win.   All of your efforts only serve to shave down the maximum amount by which I can cheat.
